Stances

 

The first thing to learn is the basic stances/modes, Attack and Defense.

When in Attack mode your weapon hand is forward as is your weapon foot. Keep you weight balanced over your center point so that you can move in any direction at any time. It is also important to look straight ahead with your chin up. NEVER lean into the fight.

 

When in Defense mode you are in the exact opposite stance as Attack. Weapon foot and hand back, off hand foot and hand forward. The other advice offered in the explanation of Attack mode is also applicable in Defense mode.

 

As stated earlier, the above stances are the proper ones but it is worth emphasizing that either stance can be used when attacking or defending, the versions shown below are the "normal" ones.
